Italian Pilot
Italian Pilot
Description
The Italian pilot, coordinated by A2A, A2A Ambiente and Novamont, develops and tests a complete process for the selection and recycling of bio-based plastics present in household waste. Mixed plastics are collected and then processed with advanced optical technologies based on NIR sensors and artificial intelligence systems that separate the different types of materials.
The selected bio-based plastic fraction is then sent to a pre-treatment phase and subsequently undergoes chemical recycling. The goal is to transform it into new high-quality bio-based plastics through a depolymerization process that allows the recovery of reusable monomers.
The tests are conducted along an integrated industrial supply chain in real operational conditions, with the objective of verifying the quality of the recovered materials and demonstrating the feasibility of a circular recycling model for post-consumer bio-based plastics.
